World No.1 Rafael Nadal defeated Frenchman Gilles Simon in straight sets to set up an all Spanish semifinal with Fernando Verdasco.Nadal is attempting to reach his eighth career grandslam final, his first on hardcourt.Nadal has not dropped a set enroute to semifinal is appearing in the Australian Open semifinal for the 2nd straight year, last year he surprisingly lost to Tsonga in straight sets.5 grandslam titles to his name(4 Roland Gaross & 1 Wimbledon), Nadal is desperately chasing for his maiden hardcourt grandslam title.

World No.15 Fernando Verdasco is making his first grandslam semifinal appearance after defeating two higher seeds, World No.4 Andy Murray in 5 sets in the fourth round & 2008 AO runner Tsonga in 4 sets in the QF.Verdasco made a name for himself by playing a major role in Spain's Davis Cup victory over Argentina in the finals, where he won both his rubber matches & in one of which he made a comeback victory after being 2 sets down.By making it to the semifinals of Australian Open, he will jump to No.9 spot & will jump to No.6 if he wins the title.

Both the lefties are meeting each other for the seventh time with Nadal leading 6-0.

13 time grandslam champion & World No.2 Roger Federer stormed into his 19th consecutive grandslam semifinal with a crushing 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 victory over ATP No.6 Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina to set up a clash with old rival & Former World No.1 Andy Roddick of USA.Federer is chasing for his 14th Grandslam title & equal Pete Sampras's all time record, he was a winner of Australian Open in 2004, 2006, 2007.Federer who struggled to win the fourth round against Tomas Berdych after being two sets down, regained his top form in the quarterfinal winning 83 points to Del Potro’s 36 and fired 38 winners to just nine unforced errors.

ATP No.9 Andy Roddick advanced to the semifinal of Australian Open for the fourth time after the defending Champion Novak Djokovic retired due to heat exhaution, while Roddick was leading 6-7(3),6-4,6-2,2-1.Roddick who has worked hard on his fitness & diet with his new coach Larry Stefanki, has had good results from the beginning of 2009 ATP season.Nearly six years since his sole grandslam title at the US Open in 2003, Roddick still believes he has time on his side.Since then he has reached two Wimbledon Finals & one US Open Final but only to be beaten by Federer each time.

In 2009 Australian Open Semifinal, both the former World No.1s clash each other for the 18th time.Federer leads 15-2 but Roddick has won the last meeting at ATP Miami Masters in 2008.

World No.2 & 13 time grandslam champion Roger Federer set up a clash with rising Argentine star ATP No.9 Juan Martin Del Potro in the quarterfinal of Australian Open 2009.Federer narrowly escaped defeat against ATP No.21 Tomas Berdych, making a comeback victory after being 2 sets down in 3 hrs & 28 min.Del Potro stormed into his second career quarter-final, he also made it to the quarter-final of US Open 2008(lt.to Murray), after a 4 set win over Croatian Marin Cilic.

The pair's last meeting was at the quarter-finals of ATP Madrid Masters which Federer won 6-3,6-3.Head to Head they have met 3 times with Federer leading 3-0.

World No.3 & Defending Australian Open Novak Djokovic moved into the quarter-final with a tough 6-1,7-6(1),6-7(7),6-2 win over 2006 Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis, to set up a mouth watering clash with 3 time semifinalist Andy Roddick who eased into the quarter-final with an easy straight sets win over Tommy Robredo, he has lost only one set enroute to the quarter-final.

They both last met in the US Open 2008 quarterfinal which Djokovic won in 4 sets.Roddick being two sets down won the third set 6-3 & was serving for the 4th set at 5-4 but Djokovic broke back immediately and forced into a tiebreak which he won 7-5.They have met each other 3 times with Djokovic winning two of them.

Roddick won 6-7(3),6-4,6-2,2-1 after Djokovic retired.
